10 more days. I decided it would be fun to record the steps we’ll be taking each day until THE DAY. There are so many details that will escape the notice of friends and family – some of whom cannot be there and would like to be. Perhaps seeing some of the behind-the-scenes scenes will make them be included and informed. And there are so many details I will not remember to smile about later – after the flurry of preparation is done. My friend, BethAnne asked me if I was stressed. I decided the word I would choose to describe the happy business of celebrating such an occasion would be BUSY, and/or, ANZIOUSLY ENGAGED IN A GOOD CAUSE. I mean, what would I rather do that this? Ummm, maybe be there for a grandchild's birth. Or, maybe REMEMBERING such a happy day might top getting ready for it. Yes, that’s it, I think. REMEMBERING. So here’s to remembering the next 10 important days. Starting with . . .
25 downy chicks arriving at 6:00 a.m. for us at the post office on the first CAKE BAKING day.
The Old Lady hens are slipping up a little these days. Hence the above purchased fuzzy Recruits. Hoping to have many of these to come (see below minus the lobelia – the lobelia is “a garnish” – name that movie and you can win – something. Boy, it is getting late)
This middle picture is my reality – I am a very messy baker.
The CAKE will be an important part of the refreshment plan. It will not only be a pretty thing to look upon, it will be refreshment for the guesties who come.
1st tier - 12 in. French Vanilla with (our garden’s) Raspberry/Cream Cheese Butter Cream filling
2nd tier – 9 in Strawberry/Vanilla layers with Strawberry/Cream Cheese filling
3rd tier – 6 in. Mystery flavor! Actually, it is a Styrofoam form. This is so I can have time to paint it (I’m painting this cake !– among other things).
4th tier – 4 in. Rice Krispie
Other, separate cakes to be served will be Chocolate, Strawberry and Lemon with special fillings too. And ice cream. Don’t forget the Blue Bunny Vanilla ice cream. And the Servers. Don’t forget the aproned and hatted cousins serving. That would be Jaiden and Juhl, Andrew and Adam. That is, if they all say yes. (I still have three of them to call- add that to my tomorrow’s list)
The Chidesters came to see Smoky (the new colt) and the chicks.
Cake Baking done. Chicks taken care of. Dishwasher going. Twinners tucked in and smiling. Husband just got home from Stake Meetings. I’m nodding off. Tomorrow is Popcorn and phone calling and ? Day. Bring it on.
