BK took us on a hike to remember. The temperature was just right, the sky was brilliant blue, and the company . . . well, the company was the best part.
Layne and Jacee and Boston Barney, Neil and Caitlin and Kyle and Mark and B Kyle (Casen behind) and Anna and Jay and Me behind the camera. The dogs are: Meg, Reggie and Dewey.
Here’s a close up of the Spanish Horse Petroglyphs we were rewarded with. It is thrilling to see it in person and wonder what those rocks could tell about if only . . . There is a legend about Spanish gold being hidden somewhere. We didn’t see any Gold. We saw mostly Red rock and Blue sky. I just couldn’t get over how blue Blue was that day.
After that hike we met Sam and Roxy and kiddos for a picnic by the Soup Bowl.
A dog and her boys. Meg was SUCH a happy girl-dog. We laughed at her competitive spirit bounding up these huge steep rocks like the people were. Mark and Kyle were no less happy.
Sam and Lily taught me a really fun game that includes the use of beautiful wooden blocks, throwing accuracy, and moments of frustrating frustration and deep satisfaction when you actually hit one. It’s called KUUB and I was soundly trounced by Big Kyle which, as anyone knows, is no disgrace.
Lily is hunkering down in a mini soup bowl. Caitlin is showing her S’mores masterpiece.
The Day Before:
Before we headed to Monticello, we had to make a stop in Richfield at the State FFA Convention, in which a couple of noteworthy events took place.
Jay welcomes this stellar group of over 1000 high school students to their first general session of the day. I was thrilled to see the discipline and preparation their state leaders showed. The event was fast moving and seamless with just the right balance of humor and respect. Every speech and presentation was articulate and almost completely by heart. Jay tells me it is one of the few organizations where the kids can learn Parliamentary Procedure.
We saw the Burrells! Years ago, at the Deseret Land and Livestock ranch, Wes did a summer internship. Codie (on the left) had just been born and I remember her adorable baby face still. It was SO fun to see them!
Wes and Jay were both honored for their contributions to the FFA organization. Gotta love the Cow Tie.
Finally, we are off. A short picnic is always great to break up a trip.
You’d never guess by the “perky ears and spark in her eye and bright intelligent look” that Meg has been administered an appropriate amount of Benadryl. This was due to the fact that she got car sick twice when we took her for shots about a month ago. This trip went splendidly for her. (and us)
Still, one can never be too careful about one’s nutty bar when Meg is around, Benadryled or not.
