Bees ‘N Cake

Here are two images of dozens which have happened around here in the last couple of days.

Anna, Bronwyn and I fashioned this beauty to help celebrate Jasen and Lorna’s wedding.

Not many Princess-gals beg to come along on a honey bee pick-up with their bee-lovin’ mother and aunt.  But Bronwyn is aspiring to be Queen Bee herself and she is fearless of 3 pounds of Italian buzzies.  We had a marvelous drive through mining towns and hilly terrain to get them.  Fun.

Last But Not Least

Here’s a close up of the last cake created.  It was for Andrew and Aubrey.  The big, glorious broach in the center of the big, glorious satin bow made this cake so stunning.

Cakes Remembered

I’m cleaning up my files of images and found some cakes I created that I can’t remember posting.  Here are some beauties to say “Farewell to Cakes” with.
It was a great 3 year run, but my friend Dona said I would get over the craving for tasting buttercream.  I never did.  Buttercream is still dreamy and creamy and delicious, and I must save myself from myself.
So, now I have become an “Appreciator”  of these wedding beauties and not a “Creator” of them.  Family Dinnertime saved!  Oh, and Hi kids, remember me?

Sometimes I enjoyed doing tiny detail work, like this ring box replica sitting behind the bow.

My trademark ‘tuxedo bow’ was all my sister, Cheri’s idea.

Janene - Christmas Bride

_MG_4700 pbl
Yesterday, Janene and Ryan married in the Timpanogos temple.  They had their reception the night before.  Here she is in the brides dressing room at the Wadley Farm just before we shot her bridals.  This ‘preliminary’ shot ends up being one of my favorites.

Dribbly, delicious wedding cake.
size 12-9-6-4
chocolate/vanilla marble
chocolate/orange marble  (it was orange flavor, but the color was electric green for the wedding colors!
This one served about 50.  The chef cut very large servings. (otherwise it would serve about 70)  Mmmmm.

Prima Dona’s Double Ganache Recipe

2 Cups heavy whipping cream
4 Cups chocolate chips (can use a combination of semi and milk choc. chips)
1 Tablespoon butter flavoring

Bring cream to slight simmer.  Take off heat.  Pour chips and flavoring in.  Stir constantly  until it is completely smooth. (Won’t take long!)  Cool a little before pouring over cake if that’s how you will be using it.  (Try not to stress too much about dribbling  in a lovely way.  Practice on an upside down pan, I do.  That helps calm my jitters about my one-time shot at getting it right or botching perfectly smooth fondant with globs or streams that cannot be 'fixed'.) This is also wonderful cooled and used for frosting and/or filling. (Try not to taste too much, I dare ya)

I was so focused on this eye shot I didn’t notice that her nose was being replaced with a funny curly-que plant thingy.  Makes me smile.

Ryan was there too, so we got bridals AND groomals._MG_4779 pbl
Does Janene remind you of a certain celebrity whose initials are Sandra Bullock?  And Ryan reminds me of one of the stars in “Magnificent Seven”, but I can’t remember that actors name.

Silhouettes show facial detail so beautifully.  And when there is beautiful color in the sky . . .

Little Girls Love a Wedding

And I do too.  Fountains, flowers, twinkly lights, streamers blowing in the breeze . . .

Oh . . . and cake!  Which is why I was invited to be there.  Thank you Melissa and Naseem.  It was a privilege.
Happy Life to you.

Pink 'n Purdy

I'm way behind in posting my cake creations.  Here's one I love, especially after Chelsey (Ruby Blooms) finished it with her unique florists' touch.

Wedding Cake for a Canook and His Jill

Jill

Many hands and hearts in this one for the beautiful Jill and dashing Garyn (my Canadian nephew). Keli, Genna, Philip, Kara, Jana, Kathi, Karli, and the rest of the Canadians, AND Garyn! How many grooms take such a part in their cake? It was so fun to see everyone and create something so delicious and beautiful together. This cake was eaten to the last petal. Gone. Beautiful British Columbia is too far away, thank goodness for missions and marriages that make us meet up.

Black Beauty Wedding Cake

Whitney wanted something black and dramatic for her wedding cake. I loved creating it for her. Best wishes Whitney and Laudry.

A Cake for Brooke

(Not really a new post, I'm just learning how to make my images LARGER)
"Brooke"
Sometimes, I don't get to meet the bride or her groom, or anybody. Like this time. This one was designed over the phone - something so visual created from audio. I liked that. It was a fun experience and she was so pretty on the phone; a sweet voice, easy to talk to, obviously very happy amid her crazy school schedule and wedding planning. Just as she should be.

Best wishes Brooke.

One-uv-a-kind for sure

This cake required a special explanation 'key' to be more fully appreciated - so why not use it for the Can't-Be-Missed topper. Keli sold a cake for any occasion at a fund raising gala for Meridian school. The lady who bought it had a daughter going to a German mission which also included Austria and Bavaria. She wanted it for a special dinner. THAT's why each tier symbolizes the flags in her mission and the edelweiss on the top.
Very cool and interesting. Not likely to see one like this again.

After the Party was over . . .

. . . it was time for this wedding cake to happen. We closed the door to the last visitor at 9 pm, then a movie went on (Little Women, While You Were Sleeping) and Lacey's wedding confection started coming together. Rice Krispie, chocolate and classic white cake is underneath all that buttercream and fondant. The 'bustle' was the last finishing touch.

A Fund Raising Gala

This purdy thing was the result of a day with Keli and Mom. It's headed for the auction block for Meridian School fund-raiser. It is just the sample, now it will be remade fresh for the bidder when they want it in the upcoming months.

Cowboy Wedding Cake

This cake may not look cowboy, but everything for this wedding was western, howdy do, especially the groom who wore formal cowboy attire. Wow, it was so fun to create this classic beauty for. The tables next to the cake had a cowboy boot with daisies spilling over the tops.

Wedding cake and Wedding day for Hannah

Too tired to write much - our family reunion was great in SLC, the trip home to set up the cake went without a hitch, the bride was beautiful, the groom handsome, the garden reception colorful, the couple happy. Great day.

It's called bridal lace on the 1st and 3rd tier - hand writing of their names and sweet words like 'eternity' on the 2nd. The cake flavors are: orange creme, milk chocolate, and (gluten-free)white on top. There you go, now I can go to bed. See ya. Zzzz . . .

Wedding cake and One for Fun

This one was for a lovely bride - Stephanie -who was once in my Young Women church group. Notice how there is painting on this one! Gotta love it - edible paint AND fondant! Deliciously pretty! How come Utah brides don't usually cut and share? I'm gonna try to change that - one bride (or rather, one mother-of-the-bride) at a time. Thanks for your fun help Bridget and Anna!
Detail of our 'Sisterly' fondant/rice krispie cake creation we made at our Sister Summit in British Columbia last month. We made it for Jana's charming store. Hopefully it is setting off some cake plate nicely.
